Qualities of Ativan

Ativan is found in the family of drugs known as benzodiazepines. It alters chemicals in the brain that cause anxiety when they become unbalanced. Consequently, Ativan is used to treat disorders associated with anxiety.

Essential Details Regarding Ativan

Ativan may cause addiction and should only be used as a prescription drug. It is not to be shared with any other person particularly one that has been a drug addict or abuser. It can add to the drowsiness that is associated with Ativan. Conversely, consuming alcohol while taking Ativan increases the effects of alcohol on the patient. You should inform your doctor in advance if you are experiencing addiction to alcohol or drugs as well as suicidal tendencies, depression, liver or kidney disease, glaucoma or respiratory problems.

If you suffer allergy to Ativan, do not use it. Conversely, the same rule applies if you are allergic to benzodiazepines and lorazepam. The use of Ativan by pregnant women can result in birth defects in unborn babies and should thus not be taken during pregnancy.
